SEMrush Overview

The great thing about having a tool like SEMrush at your disposal is that you’ll constantly be able to assess, analyse and improve different areas of your SEO strategy and in turn, your business.

SEMrush was created back in 2008 and is a tool to help with your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). With an alleged 7 million+ users, it’s not hard to see why it needs to be on your radar when debating between SEO tools.

Using the information that SEMrush provides you with, you can begin to gain a detailed understanding of what people are searching for, where your traffic is coming from, the kind of content you should be creating and any technical tweaks you need to make to your website.

SEMRush Key Features

We would be here all day if we talked about every single feature that SEMrush offers and we’ll go into the major ones in more detail further on in the review but to give you an idea, some of the most beneficial key features that SEMrush provides include:

Keyword research - SEMrush can help you to transform your keyword research by providing extensive keyword targeting suggestions for your content.

Domain analytics - The historical and advanced data on offer in the SEMrush dashboard allows you to accurately analyse the quality of your domain and all of the aspects that are impacting its authority.

Competitor analysis - Utilise elements such as traffic analysis, backlink data and market explorer to gain a full understanding of who your competitors are and how they’re performing.

Backlink audits - SEMrush gives you the opportunity to not only analyse yours and your competitors backlink profiles but also provides extensive information on backlink opportunities that you’re not yet using to their full potential.

Project management - You can use the SEMrush dashboard to develop a detailed plan for implementing various elements of your SEO strategy such as keyword monitoring and traffic analysis.

Advanced reports - SEMrush’s extensive report options offer you data and information that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else. These reports can be used across your business to help strengthen and evaluate your SEO strategy.

Local SEO - In certain SEMrush plans you can also make use of local SEO data such as local rankings, heatmaps and customer reviews.

These features are just the tip of the iceberg, SEMrush is a tool bursting at the seams with features and data to revolutionise your SEO strategy.

Pricing Options

OK so first things first you CAN use SEMrush for free without ever having to pay a penny. Whilst you’ll have access to some of the tools on the free plan your searches are limited to just 10 (compared with e.g. 3000 searches on the Pro plan), you can only manage one project and track just 10 keywords. To be brutally honest, if you’re serious about using SEMrush to advance your SEO strategy then you need to be willing to pay.

SEMrush isn’t the cheapest SEO tool on the market but most SEO experts (including us) agree that the features and data it provides make it more than worth the money.

When it comes to plans, SEMrush has three main options:

  • Pro - The Pro plan costs $119.95 per month and is designed with small business and startups in mind who know the benefit of SEO but still need to keep costs as low as possible. On a Pro plan you can track up to 500 keywords, run up to 3000 reports per day and download 5 PDF reports per month.
  • Guru - SEMrush’s Guru plan comes in at $229.95 per month and is the ideal option for medium sized companies or growing agencies who are grappling with an expanding client list. The Guru plan allows you to have up to 15 projects on the go and track 1500 keywords. Unlike the Pro plan, Guru also allows you to run historical reports enabling you to compare your performance to that of previous months.
  • Business - SEMrush’s business option will set you back $449.95 per month however you get a lot more bang for your buck with the ability to track a whopping 5000 keywords and run up to 40 projects at a time. The Business plan is aimed at large marketing agencies (for whom there’s probably no other option) or businesses who already have an extensive online presence.
SEMrush Pricing Image

SEMrush also offers the chance to try before you buy with their free trial option and savings can be made if you opt to pay your fee annually rather than monthly.

No matter which plan you choose there are also a host of additional extras which come with their own price tag should you require them. These include:

Additional users - Adding additional users with their own unique log-ins starts at $45 a month, per user. Each SEMrush plan comes with only one “seat” or user meaning if you require more people to have access to the tool at any one time then you’re going to have to pay for it on top of your plan fee.

Basic local listing management - For an extra $20 SEMrush will provide basic local SEO data such as tracking local SEO rankings and managing Google My Business and Facebook local listings.

Premium local listing management - If you want access to local heat mapping and the ability to respond to local customer reviews through SEMrush, as well as everything that’s available in the basic package then it will cost you $40 per month.

Competitive intelligence - For an extra $200 per month you can analyse the traffic to any website on the internet and get access to key data about their web presence.

Agency growth kit - This SEMrush add on allows you to automate some of the most important agency tasks such as setting up new lead channels and organising client data. If you’re interested then this will be an extra $100 per month.

There is actually one other plan available but SEMrush doesn’t provide a standard set of features or tools for this one. The Enterprise plan is for large-scale businesses and agencies whose SEO needs are more advanced than what the core plans can provide. An Enterprise plan is customised by the SEMrush team to meet your exact needs giving you a fully personalised system and interface.

The SEMrush Dashboard

When you first log-in to SEMrush there’s no denying that the dashboard can be a little intimidating and it can take some getting used to in order to understand where everything is. Like most things though, once you’ve had a play around you’ll soon start to pick it up and before long navigating around the SEMrush dashboard will be second nature.

The dashboard allows you to type in either a domain or keyword, depending on the data you’re after.

Image showing the SEMRush Dashboard

One of the great things about the SEMrush dashboard is that much of the data is presented in graphs and charts, making it considerably easier to digest than if you were given list after list of numbers and stats.

SEMrush also categorises its menu into obvious categories such as keyword research, rank tracking and link building making it super simple for you to find the exact tools and data that you’re looking for.

If you do find that you’re struggling to get to grips with the dashboard then you can find customer support and user manuals at the top of your dashboard. SEMrush’s own resources are great if you need a little extra guidance or if you feel like something within the tool isn’t working as it should be, contacting the SEMrush team is just a click away.

SEMRush Help

One downside to the SEMrush dashboard however is that it’s not mobile responsive. Considering every SEO expert worth their salt knows that a mobile responsive website is the key to search success it’s perhaps a little ironic that one of the leading SEO tools is lacking in this area. If you’re intending to use SEMrush on your desktop, which the majority of users are, then you’ll have no problems. You can still access SEMrush via a mobile browser of course but you’ll just need to prepare yourself for lots of pinching the screen and zooming in…

It’s not all bad news for accessing SEMrush on a mobile device however as they do have an app which allows you to access your position tracking data allowing you to quickly check your keyword performance whenever you need to. A feature that is particularly handy for meetings when you may be unexpectedly asked to provide the most current figures.

Overall the SEMrush dashboard is easy to navigate and use once you’ve got yourself acquainted with the various menus and data sets it can provide you with. To get the most out of it, however, you'll definitely benefit from using a desktop rather than a mobile device.

SEMrush Key Features

SEMrush is made up of various features and individual tools which you can utilise to help improve your SEO. Here we’ll take a look at some of those key features, how you use them and what they can offer to your SEO strategy.

Domain Analysis

Domain analysis is exactly what it sounds like, analysing the quality of a domain. It’s always a good idea to implement some domain analysis before you begin any kind of SEO project in order to ensure you’ve got a good idea of how your domain is currently performing and where it could be improved.

You can also undertake domain analysis on your competitors' domains with SEMrush in order for you to gain an insight into what you’ll need to be doing in order to start outperforming them.

If you’re thinking about undertaking some link building then domain analysis can also be super useful for you to check out potential websites who you’d like to target. Backlinks from a high quality domain can give your site a major SEO boost so analysing the domain before building a link is essential.

Domain analysis within SEMrush is super easy. In fact all you need to do is enter a domain into the main search bar and you’ll be presented with a dashboard featuring all of the relevant stats and information about your chosen domain.

Domain Overview image at SEMRush

The SEMrush domain analysis dashboard will present you with information on things such as monthly website visitors, number of backlinks pointing to the domain, top performing keywords, amount of keywords the domain ranks for, an authority score for the domain, anchor texts commonly used to link to the website and the domains of competing websites. You can use all of these insights to help understand where any gaps in your website's performance lie and where you should be focusing your efforts.

One of the best insights SEMrush’s domain analysis offers you is the “authority score” for the domain in question. SEMrush works out the authority score of a domain based on:

  • The quality and number of backlinks pointing to the domain.
  • Organic search traffic and keyword positions of the domain.
  • Monthly visits to the domain.

The authority score is easy to find on the dashboard and gives you an immediate insight into the domain’s quality. You can then use the rest of the data to understand how SEMrush came to that score and what you can do to improve it.

Another great feature of the domain analysis dashboard is the Competitive Positioning Map which allows you to see where the domain fits in amongst its competitors. Having this kind of insight can help to ensure you implement an SEO strategy that is sure to blast your competitors out of the water.

Competitive positioning SEMRush

The only area of the tools domain analysis feature that could be improved slightly is traffic data. SEMrush makes no secret of the fact that these figures are estimates and are not always 100% accurate. That being said, this data is still useful in giving you a strong indication of the website's popularity and visitor numbers.

The domain analysis section of SEMRush is super useful and even on its own can provide users with invaluable information on a domain's performance to help them evaluate the most beneficial next steps to take. Understanding how well your website is performing is essential if you want to truly gage the effectiveness of your SEO strategy and SEMrush’s domain analysis tool provides you with exactly that information.

Rank Tracking

SEMrush’s Rank Tracking or Position Tracking features allow you to monitor how your website is performing for specific keywords. This is especially useful if you’ve been implementing SEO tactics to target certain keywords as you are able to keep a close eye on how successful you’ve been.

You’ll find the position tracker within the Projects tab and here you can input both the domain and the keyword(s) that you want to track. Once you’ve inputted your information you’ll be presented with a report highlighting how well you’re performing for your keywords as well as providing suggestions as to how you can improve your SEO.

Position tracking SEMRush

A great way to make use of the rank tracker is by using it to help form your content marketing plans. By understanding which keywords you’re ranking for (and which you aren’t) you can strategize to create web content that will target the keywords you deem to need the most attention. You can then circle right back round to the rank tracker tool to see how those blog posts are performing for their target keywords.

Don’t forget you can also use the feature to see how well your competitors are performing and what keywords they are ranking for. Make a note of which pieces of their content rank for which keywords and determine whether or not you could create a better piece of content that just might push them down the rankings. You can also use this data to directly compare your site to your competitors to check you’re on the right track.

One of the best things about SEMrush’s rank tracking software and something that helps to make it so useful for SEO experts is its email updates system. This allows users to sign up to receive email updates on rank tracking progress, informing you when a page is doing particularly well or if your content has dropped off the first page of SERPs for a particular keyword.

SEMrush’s rank tracking software is accurate, intuitive and easy to use and helps you to keep track of how your content is actually performing in search results for your target keywords.

Keyword Research

If you’ve been undertaking any kind of SEO work on your website then the chances are you’ll have already done at least some basic keyword research. There are loads of tools out there to help with this task such as AHrefs and Google Keyword Planner. SEMrush’s keyword research feature is basically an advanced version of the latter.

Find out which keywords your competitors are ranking for HERE

SEMrush allows you to find out important keyword information and data such as how many people are searching for a keyword, how difficult it is to rank for that keyword, which websites are already ranking for that keyword as well as suggestions for other, similar keywords you could target.

Much like the domain analysis tool all you need to do is input your chosen keyword into the search bar and SEMrush will present you with a dashboard of useful data such as search volume, related keywords and keyword variants. You can then use this information to help you determine whether or not you stand a chance of ranking for this term as well as using the related keywords to see if there are any other search terms that are currently missing from your targeting.

Keyword targeting image SEMrush keyword tool

One of the most useful parts of SEMrush’s Keyword Overview is that it not only provides you with a keyword difficulty score, SEMrush use a percentage here - the higher the percentage the harder it will be to rank for this term, they also give you an estimate for the number of backlinks you need pointing to your website in order to compete with the pages that currently rank for the term. This is incredibly useful for SEO experts who can then use this data to help inform their link building strategy.

Keyword difficulty image in SEMRush

Another great aspect of SEMrush’s keyword research capabilities is the Keyword Magic tool. Here you can enter a keyword and SEMrush will provide you with an extensive list of related keywords. You can filter the list down via things such as keyword difficulty and search volume, allowing you to use the information presented to you to determine which keywords will be most beneficial for you to target.

The only downside to SEMrush’s keyword research features is that all of the data is related to Google. This is hardly much of an issue however considering that Google has over 90% of the market share, meaning it’s unlikely that anyone is going to be prioritising Bing or Yahoo searches anyway.

Backlink Analysis

We all know that building quality backlinks is a key part of any SEO strategy so it’s no surprise that SEMrush has a host of features to help with this task.

SEMrush’s Backlink Analysis feature allows you to view and assess all of the backlinks that any given domain has pointing to it. All you have to do is enter the domain and you’ll be presented with a whole host of information about its backlink profile including the anchor text used for each backlink and top level domain distribution.

The Backlink Analysis feature is a great way to keep an eye on the quality of links you have pointing towards your site. If you’ve noticed a drop in the rankings then it could be down to a spammy or low-quality link so keeping a close eye on your backlink profile is important if you want to reach the best ranking positions.

You can also utilise SEMrush’s Backlink Analysis tool to discover the backlink profile of your competitors. You can look through the sites that are currently linking to them and establish whether or not it may be worth reaching out to build a backlink to your content instead.

Most SEO tools of course provide users with a backlink feature to view their backlink profile however what stands SEMrush apart from the rest is the size of its link database. The tool claims to have a link database of over 43 trillion URL’s making it the biggest by far of any of the leading SEO tools. The size of the database allows SEMrush to offer you the most comprehensive insight into your backlink profile available.

Backlink Audits

Whilst SEMrush’s Backlink Analysis tool lets you see all of the backlinks you have pointing towards your website, the Backlink Audit feature allows you to evaluate the quality of your backlink profile as a whole.

A Backlink Audit will see SEMrush determine the overall “health” of your backlink profile which also includes providing you with a list of any links you have pointing to your site that it has deemed to be spammy.

This is one of the best and most useful features on SEMrush. Low quality links can have a major impact on the SEO performance of your website so being able to easily identify ones that could be negatively impacting it is invaluable. You can then input these links into your Google Search Console in order to disavow them and prevent them from having any further impact on your website's performance. Another great feature that SEMrush offers here is the chance to whitelist any links that you think SEMrush has wrongly identified as spam.

Link Building

Without a doubt one of the features that really makes SEMrush a cut above the rest is it’s link building capabilities.

SEMrush’s link building feature will present you with an extensive list of relevant websites you can consider outreaching to in order to build backlinks. It creates the list based on the criteria you provide in answer to three key areas:

  • The keywords you want to rank for.
  • Your competitors and the terms they’re ranking for.
  • The content on your website.

What makes this feature in SEMrush so great however is the added value it provides you as a user. You’re given the opportunity to link your email mailbox to SEMrush in order to send your outreach emails from within the tool. SEMrush also aims to provide you with the email addresses of as many of the websites identified as possible and you can also save an email template to re-use for each outreach message.

SEMRush Outreach tool screenshot

You can manage all of your outreach within the CRM-style system, which is considerably more than any of SEMrush’s main competitors offer when it comes to link building assistance. This feature can transform your link building strategy, helping to automate much of the process and saving you valuable time. SEMrush’s link building capabilities are worth the subscription fee alone.

Broken Link Building

Broken link building is a common SEO tactic that involves finding a broken link (e.g. a link that points to a page that no longer exists), creating content similar to what the link originally pointed to and then asking all websites who link to the “dead” content to link to yours instead. Whilst it can be a beneficial tactic, it’s lengthy and time consuming.

SEMrush can help to simplify and speed up the process by identifying any 404 errors (broken links) and providing you with the relevant information and contact details. Just like normal link building you can conduct all of your broken link building outreach within the tools CRM-style dashboard. You can connect your mailbox and create a template email to duplicate. One of the downsides of broken link building is the sheer manpower it can take to complete, something that SEMrush helps to solve.

There is only one downside to SEMrush’s broken link building capabilities. It’s a bit of a mission to navigate to. Whereas some SEO tools have a dedicated broken link building section, in SEMrush you’ll need to run a backlink analysis report and export the results from the “target errors” within “indexed pages”. You’ll then need to filter the excel file you’ve downloaded to show all of the 404 errors. It’s a little bit fiddly and could definitely be made simpler but once you’ve done that you can simply import your list of broken links back into SEMrush and complete your outreach within the tool.

Despite the process it’s still a far easier option than manually trawling the internet looking for relevant broken links you can utilise in your strategy, something many people are forced to do before they invest in an SEO tool to do it for them.

Competitor Analysis

If you want a quick spy on how your competitors are getting on (and who doesn’t?!) then

SEMrush can help. The tools competitor analysis features are unrivalled when it comes to giving you the intel and data you need to match and beat your competitors performance.

Just a simple domain analysis will bring up a list of your key organic competitors, helping you to identify exactly who it is that you need to be keeping a close eye on. Once you’ve got that information you can use it to run all of the checks you would for your own website (domain analysis, backlink reports, broken link checker, keyword performance etc) on your competitors too.

When analysing your competitors domains and performance make note of the keywords they perform particularly well for and the pages on their website that are the most popular. Do you think you could create even better content than what’s on these pages? If so then you have a good chance of giving them a run for their money in the rankings.

SEMrush also offers you the opportunity to see your competitors' New Organic Positions and Position Changes Trend. This information can be useful for you as it gives you an idea of the work your competitors are doing right now and what their key SEO focuses currently are. This is a particularly great feature for ecommerce websites who can use this intel to predict any new or popular products for competitors.

Organic position charts of competitors on SEMRush domain overview

One of the elements of SEMrush’s competitor analysis software that really helps it to be an essential part of your strategy is it’s Topic Research. Here you can enter one of your target keywords and you’ll be presented with a mindmap and list of all of the main headlines that your competition are creating to target that keyword. The information is handily broken down into elements such as headlines and questions. You can then use this to plan out your content marketing strategy, helping you to decide on blog post topics and titles that have the best chance of performing well and doing better than your competitors for your target keyword.

Topic Research tool screenshot on SEMRush

The great thing about SEMrush’s competitor analysis features is that they’re simple to use and digest meaning you can run them frequently in order to stay in the loop with what your competitors are doing or set aside time every 6 months or so for a major competitor analysis review, whichever works best for you.

Site Auditing

We all know how important it is for SEO to have a functioning website with no technical issues. SEMrush’s site auditing features are therefore essential to anyone who wants to fly up the rankings.

SEMrush will audit your website and flag up any issues that may be negatively impacting the performance of your website such as duplicate content, crawl errors, keyword stuffing, slow page speed and missing headers. You’re then handed a ready-made checklist of tasks that need addressing. You can even connect this list to Trello, a project management tool, if this is something you or your team use.

One of the most useful parts of SEMrush’s site auditing features is its On-Page SEO Checker. Here the tool will scan your whole website and give you actionable tips for each individual page on how you can improve its SEO performance. These tips include everything from suggesting internal links and keywords to add to how to improve the meta description of the page, websites you could approach for a backlink to the page and how you may be able to get the page used as a featured snippet on Google. This information is literally invaluable and is an SEO masterclass for your website. You’d be silly to not make use of it.

Each element of the On-Page SEO Checker also comes with an explainer box, detailing not just what you should do but why you should do it, helping to improve your own SEO knowledge and understanding at the same time. This feature is far and above anything you’ll find on any other SEO tool.

Content Marketing Toolkit

For anyone on a Guru plan or higher, SEMrush also offers access to their Content Marketing Toolkit.

The toolkit offers some great insights and advice on how to improve the content marketing strategy specifically for your website including:

  • Topics to create content around.
  • Keywords that competitors are using in their content.
  • SEO audits of your existing content.
  • Mentions of your brand elsewhere on the internet.

The most useful part of SEMrush’s Content Marketing Toolkit however is the SEO Writing Assistant. Here you can copy and paste your article (or you can even write it within SEMrush if you prefer) and SEMrush will provide you with suggestions on how you can improve the content to get the best results.

This is particularly useful as this is for new content and not posts that are already live on your website, meaning you can ensure the content is up to scratch before you hit publish.

Enterprise SEO

Aside from the three main SEMrush plans there is one more, exclusive option for those who require an advanced SEO tool. SEMrush Enterprise is a fully customisable plan, aimed at businesses and agencies whose SEO needs are considerably higher than that of a normal business.

If you’re interested in an Enterprise plan then you’ll be given your own SEMrush account manager who will help to create a tool and dashboard that is adapted specifically to your requirements. There’s no set feature list or price point, instead you’ll be charged depending on the specific elements you opt for but as you can probably imagine, this doesn’t come cheap. So who should even be considering an Enterprise account?

Enterprise plans are for those SEO experts who are managing sites where the number of pages and links hit the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. The stakes are far higher and often there are a number of shareholders to keep happy. There’s no specific figures you need to be working with to require an Enterprise plan but for the majority of businesses and agencies, the Pro, Guru or Business plans will be more than adequate.

Even most larger businesses and agencies don’t require an Enterprise plan, but some do. For example, do you think a brand such as Amazon has the same SEO needs as a medium-sized plumbing business? Absolutely not. The usual tips and tricks won’t work for a site the size of Amazon operating in a competitive market, which is where Enterprise plans come in. They offer SEO experts the ability to monitor huge numbers of links, pages and domains and provide them with the insights and data they really need.

What About PPC?

If you’re working on a mixture of SEO and PPC campaigns then the likelihood is that you’d like a tool that can offer you support for both right? Most tools on the market solely focus on one or the other which is what makes SEMrush stand out from the crowd. SEMrush can be just as beneficial for PPC data and campaigns as it is for SEO, meaning you can get everything you need from one tool and more importantly, one subscription payment.

When it comes to using SEMrush for PPC, it can be beneficial for:

  • Keyword research for new PPC campaigns or clients.
  • Insights into the PPC performance of competitors.
  • Organising your keywords into ad groups.
  • Building search ads.
  • Setting Cost-Per-Click bids.
advertising research on SEMRush

SEMrush’s suite of tools can help to streamline the creation of your PPC campaigns and features such as Advertising Research reports, Keyword Magic Tool, Keyword Gap, PPC Keyword tool and Ad Builder can all help to transform your PPC campaign research, implementation and success.

Customer Support

Whilst customer support may not be at the top of your checklist when determining if SEMrush is the right SEO tool for you it can actually be more important than you think. With so many technical and complex features at your disposal it’s always handy to have quick access to customer support should something go wrong or you require some extra guidance.

One of the great things about SEMrush is that their help channels are super easy to find. You’ll see a chat box in the corner of every single page meaning you can instantly start a conversation with a member of the SEMrush team. They also provide phone and email assistance too so you can utilise whichever channel you prefer.

Unlike many online tools and companies SEMrush make their contact details easy to find. You should spot them in the footer of the website. Let’s be honest there’s nothing more annoying than having to navigate through 20 help and FAQ pages before they finally offer up their contact details.

If you opt for a fully customised Enterprise plan then you’ll also have access to a personal account manager who can provide tailored support no matter what your needs.

SEMRush Pros and Cons

To summarise we’ve put together the below table to hopefully give you a clear breakdown of the pros and cons of SEMrush to help you decide if SEMrush is the SEO tool for you.

Pros of SEMrush

Cons of SEMrush

SEMrush’s dashboard is easy to navigate and large quantities of data are presented in an easy to digest manner.

SEMrush only provides quantifiable data for Google, not any other search engine.

SEMrush not only provides SEO data but also PPC data allowing you to combine your requirements in one tool.

Each plan only comes with one user account, you’ll have to pay to add more.

The link building and CRM-style features make link building simple and can transform your backlink profile.

It’s hard to use the tool to its full capacity on a mobile device.

The site audit tool presents you with easy to follow advice and instructions to help improve the performance of your website.

SEMrush allows you to pull multiple reports in one day (a considerably higher number than many of its competitors).

Domain analysis is easy to perform and all the data and information you need can be found in one place.

You can take out a 14 day free trial to check it’s right for you before committing.

Whilst no tool will ever be perfect, SEMrush is pretty close and the pros of making use of the tool to help inform and improve your SEO strategy far outweigh the cons.

Is SEMRush Worth it?

Is SEMrush really worth it? I hear you ask. The short answer is yes. Absolutely yes. With so many SEO tools out there nowadays SEMrush is still miles ahead of its competition thanks to its unrivalled insights and data.

The tool actually underwent a bit of a revamp in 2020 which saw it become sleeker and arguably even easier to navigate and use. It also saw the prices go up leading to a few SEO experts and agencies wondering whether or not it was time to find a cheaper alternative. I can bet that any that did soon came back with their tails between their legs. SEMrush might be on the pricier end of SEO tools but the investment is justified for the expert level of in-depth data you can extract when using the tool correctly.

In today's digital age every single business needs to have an online presence. Nothing highlighted that more than the Covid-19 pandemic which saw online businesses fly and traditional, brick-and-mortar businesses fail. SEMrush will help businesses of all shapes and sizes to not only create that essential online presence but to hone and nurture it in order to get the very best growth and results.

Spending time, effort and resources on building a website, creating content and implementing a digital marketing strategy would be fruitless if you haven’t undertaken at least some basic keyword research first. Not only that but you need to understand what your competitors are doing and where there’s a gap in the market that you can fill.

Once you’ve created and posted your content you need to know how it’s performing, what’s working and what’s not as well as understanding the quality of your website and domain as a whole. Not to mention the importance of building and monitoring your backlink profile. There’s a lot to think about when working on your online presence and SEMrush can help with most, if not all, of it.

Whilst you can arguably do all of the above without SEMrush, using the tool will help to power up your keyword targeting, build better backlinks, track your market positions and use real, competitive intelligence to help inform your SEO strategy.

Who can benefit from using SEMrush?

  • Those running small, medium and large sized businesses with a decent marketing budget available.
  • Agencies supporting or running SEO strategies and campaigns for clients.
  • Those looking for the best competitor analysis data.
  • Those on the hunt for a quality keyword research tool.
  • Website owners and marketers who want to make use of multiple SEO features, all within one interface.

The Final Word on SEMRush

SEMrush is the best SEO tool on the market. That might sound like a bold claim to make but it’s the truth. That’s not to say that alternative tools such as AHRefs and Moz aren’t useful and quality in their own right because they are, but they just don’t live up to SEMrush.

It may be pricier than some of its competitors but SEMrush offers the capabilities of multiple suites all within one interface and subscription plan. Not only that but once you get the hang of using the tool to its full capabilities you’ll benefit from having all of your SEO and digital marketing tools and data in one place, allowing you to save on time and resources that can be put to use elsewhere.

If you’re serious about making your SEO a success then SEMrush needs to be an essential part of your digital marketing spend. Get your free trial now.
