I’m an SEO and AI search consultant based in Hersham, working with businesses across the UK. Plenty of consultants build a separate page for every nearby town and claim deep local expertise in each. I don’t — because for this kind of work that expertise isn’t real, and you’d see through it. What being local genuinely offers is simpler and smaller than the usual pitch. Here’s the honest version.

The honest framing

Does it matter that I’m local? Mostly, no.

Technical SEO, AI search work, web and app builds — none of it needs a shared postcode. The work happens on your website and inside search, not in a room. A consultant two hundred miles away can do it exactly as well as one down the road. Anyone selling you “local SEO expertise” as though your town has its own secret set of ranking rules is, mostly, selling you a story.

Here is where being local genuinely helps, and it’s worth saying plainly. Some business owners simply prefer to meet the person doing important work for them — to sit down properly at the start, and occasionally check in face to face rather than over a call. That’s a real and reasonable preference. If it’s yours, being in Surrey means I can do that. That is the honest extent of the local advantage. It is worth something. It is not worth a different strategy, a different standard of work, or a premium.
